Alan Andrew Young

Alan Andrew Young was an honorary physician at Ryde and Blacktown hospitals, New South Wales, Australia. He was born in Sydney, the son of Alfred Gordon Young, a barrister, and Vera Blanche Young née Markham. He was educated at Fort Street Boys’ High School in Sydney and then attended Sydney University to study medicine. His brother became a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist.

He was a resident medical officer at Sydney Hospital from 1946 to 1947 and then at Prince Henry Hospital from 1947 to 1948. He was an associate in medicine at the Sydney Hospital from 1951 to 1953.

From 1961 he was an honorary physician at Ryde Hospital and from 1966 also at Blacktown Hospital. From 1972 to 1978 he was a clinical lecturer in medicine at Sydney Hospital.

Outside medicine he enjoyed skiing and golf.

In 1953 he married June Mary Tyson, the daughter of an accountant. They had two sons and two daughters.
