Geoffrey Allan Hunter

Geoffrey Allan Hunter was a dermatologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, South Australia. He was born in Adelaide, the son of Roy Allan Hunter, an engraver, and was educated at Adelaide High School and the University of Adelaide. He qualified in 1942.

He was a resident medical officer at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and then joined the Royal Australian Army Medical Corps as a captain. He was demobilised in 1946.

From 1955 to 1956 he was a medical registrar at the Royal Adelaide Hospital. He then went to the UK, where he was a senior registrar in dermatology at Leeds General Infirmary. He gained his MRCP in 1957 and his membership of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians in 1959.

From 1966 to 1970 he was an honorary dermatologist at the Royal Adelaide Hospital and a senior visiting dermatologist thereafter.

He was a censor for the Australasian College of Dermatologists from 1966 to 1973 and chief censor from 1973 to 1975.

In 1946 he married Betty Hazel Cheek, the daughter of a footwear wholesaler. They had three children – Valerie, Allan and Margaret.
