Richard Hong Toh Loke

Richard Hong Toh Loke was a consultant physician and gastroenterologist at the Kent and Sussex Hospital, Tunbridge Wells. He was born in the Batu Pahat district of Johor state, Malaysia. His father, Sek Hau Loke, was a businessman; his mother, Piak Ngo Kang, was a housewife. He studied medicine at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School in London and qualified in 1980.

After junior posts, he was a registrar in medicine in West Dorset. He was then a research fellow at Charing Cross Hospital, London. He subsequently became a senior registrar in general medicine and gastroenterology at University College, Middlesex and Whittington hospitals.

In 1993 he was appointed as a consultant physician and gastroenterologist in Barnsley, South Yorkshire. Four years later he moved to the Kent and Sussex Hospital, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.

In 1989, he married Catherine Mei Yuk Loke, a medical secretary. They had a son and a daughter.
