Margaret Helen Buston

Margaret Helen Buston was a consultant paediatrician in Rochdale. She was born in Bristol, the daughter of George Edwin Buston, a watchmaker and jeweller, and Ellen Buston née Hancock. She was educated at Colston’s Girls’ School in Bristol, and went on to study medicine at Bristol University, qualifying in 1950 with distinctions in pharmacology and child health.

She was an ENT house surgeon at Bristol General Hospital, and then a house physician at Bristol’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children. She went on to work at Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital as a house physician. From May to December 1952 she was a senior house officer at Gulson Hospital in Coventry. She subsequently returned to Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital as a medical registrar. From 1954 to 1956 she was a paediatric registrar for the Coventry hospitals, gaining her diploma in child health in 1955.

In 1956 she joined the Royal Air Force medical branch as a medical officer. She then went to Liverpool as a senior paediatric registrar. From 1965, she was a consultant paediatrician in Rochdale.

Outside medicine she enjoyed gardening and playing the piano.

She was unmarried. She was survived by her sisters Barbara and Winifred.
