Philip John Conlong

Philip John Conlong was a consultant gastroenterologist at Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, Greater Manchester. He was born in Manchester. His father, George Conlong, was an accountant; his mother, Patricia Conlong née Kirk, was a lecturer. He studied at Manchester University, gaining a BSc degree in psychology in 1984 and qualifying with his MB ChB in 1989.

He held junior posts in Manchester and in July 1999 was appointed as a consultant at the Royal Oldham Hospital. He was a member of the gastroenterology team and was a clinical director.

At the time of his election to the fellowship of the Royal College of Physicians in 2004 he listed the outdoors, reading, theatre, writing, music and sailing among his interests.

Philip Conlong died suddenly while on holiday abroad. He was 52. He was survived by his wife Rebecca and stepchild Lucy/Jack.
