Anthony Divaris (‘Tony’) was a physician in Zimbabwe. Of Greek origins, he was at the forefront of reform in health and education in the newly independent country and strove to improve the standard of living for the impoverished majority.
He was the author of several scientific papers in the Central African Journal of Medicine on topics which ranged from hyperparathyroidism, preventable cataracts, coronary thrombosis and toxoplasmosis in Rhodesia.
When he died at the age of 93, President Robert Mugabe visited his family to pay his respects. He was survived by his wife, Vasiliki Kiki, two sons, two grandchildren and one great grandchild.
