David Meredith Williams

David Meredith Williams was a consultant physician at Merthyr and Aberdare hospitals. He was born in Cardiganshire, Wales, the son of Thomas Charles Williams, a farmer, and Anne Williams née Jones. He attended a local primary school and then Christ College in Brecon. He went on to study medicine at the Welsh National School of Medicine. He gained a BSc in 1942 and qualified MB BCh in 1945.

He was a house physician at Morriston Hospital, Swansea from 1945 to 1946 and then carried out his National Service in the RAMC. From 1949 to 1953, he was a registrar at East Glamorgan Hospital. He was subsequently a senior registrar for the United Cardiff Hospitals and Royal Gwent Hospital, Newport. In 1963 he was appointed to his consultant post at the Merthyr and Aberdare hospitals.

In 1965 he was president of the Merthyr and Aberdare Medical Society. In the 1970s, he was chairman of the medical staff committee, the medical executive committee, and the Merthyr and Aberdare hospital managements committee.

Outside medicine, he was interested in golf, photography and the countryside.

In 1947 he married Anne Daniel, the daughter of a miner. They had a son (Peter) and a daughter (Alison).
