Peter Wingfield Blower

Peter Wingfield Blower was a consultant physician specialising in rheumatology at Greenwich District Hospital. He was born in Glasgow, the son of James Wingfield Blower, a sales manager. His mother, two uncles, grandfather and great grandfather were all medical practitioners. He was educated at St Dunstan’s College, Catford, London, and then went on to study medicine at King’s College Medical School. He qualified MRCS LRCP in 1954 and MB BS in 1955.

He was a house surgeon at King’s College Hospital. From 1960 to 1962 he was a medical registrar at St Peter’s Hospital, Chertsey. He then became a registrar and senior registrar in physical medicine at Westminster Hospital.

In 1969 he became a consultant in physical medicine at the Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital and remained there until 1973. Also in 1969, he became a consultant in physical medicine at Greenwich District Hospital.

In 1959 he married Elizabeth Ann née Carter, the daughter of a doctor. They had two sons and a daughter. His wife predeceased him.
