Ahamefula Azoronye Alaoma Amadi was a consultant cardiologist at Aintree Cardiac Centre, Aintree University Hospital, Liverpool. He was born in London, the son of Emanuel Igbo Amadi and Hilda Amadi. He studied medicine at St George’s Hospital Medical School, qualifying MB BS in 1983.
Between 1983 and 1985 he was a house officer at Ashford, Frimley Park and West Suffolk hospitals, then he joined the Bath hospitals medical senior house officer rotation. From 1987 to 1990 he was on the medical registrar rotation between Whittington, University College, Middlesex, London Chest and Oldchurch hospitals.
In May 1990 he joined Harefield Hospital as a cardiology registrar. From 1992 to 1994 he was a research fellow and honorary registrar in cardiology at the National Heart and Lung Institute, London and Charing Cross and Chelsea and Westminster hospitals. He was then a senior registrar in cardiology at Charing Cross Hospital. He was subsequently appointed as a consultant cardiologist at Aintree Cardiac Centre and also at the Cardiothoracic Centre, Liverpool. He was an honorary lecturer in the department of medicine, University of Liverpool.
He was a member of the British Cardiac Society, the British Society of Echocardiology and the Mersey Cardiology Group. He received several awards, including the E Merck travelling fellowship, and gained Roussel, Sigma Tau and Servier research grants.
He was unmarried.
