Shahadath Hossain was professor of paediatrics and child health at Chittagoing Medical College Hospital, Bangladesh. Born in Chittagong, Bangladesh, his father was MVI Ashrarul Hoque Chowdhury, a landlord, and his mother was Ayesha Khatun. He studied medicine at Dhaka Medical College, Dhaka University and Dhaka Medical College Hospital.
Qualifying in 1962, he travelled to the UK three years later and worked in various hospitals to continue his training in paediatrics and general medicine. He was house physician, senior house physician, and medical registrar in Grimsby (1965), Bedford (1966), Port Talbot (1967), and Swansea and East Glamorgan General Hospital until June 1970.
On his return to Bangladesh, he was appointed assistant professor of paediatrics and child health at the Barisal Medical College Hospital from November 1973 to March 1978, when he became associate professor of paediatrics and child health at the Mymensingh and Chittagong Medical College Hospital, staying until May 1983. From June 1983 he was professor of of paediatrics and child health at Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
He published papers on papers on topics such as the early diagnosis and management of neonatal tetanus and nutritional problems in children.
Outside medicine he relaxed by going fishing.
In 1971 he married Amina and they had two daughters and a son. She survived him.
