Sandra Dean was a consultant in clinical pharmacology at Walsall Manor Hospital. She studied medicine at Glasgow University and qualified in 1972.

No information is available about her early career but, on her sudden and unexpected death in 2009, she had been a consultant at Walsall for 28 years. She had been working with elderly and general medicine patients and was particularly popular with the old due to her kindly and sympathetic personality.

From 1994 onwards she served as a magistrate for a day every other week at Walsall Magistrates Court. An animal lover, she owned two dogs. Horse riding was one of her favourite activities.

She died after being found by a friend to have collapsed at her home.
