Tony Roger Vallance

Tony Roger Vallance was a consultant physician in medicine for the elderly at Leicester General Hospital. He was born in Matlock, Derbyshire, the son of Victor Vallance, a motor mechanic, and Evelyn Vallance, a housewife. He was educated at Ernest Bailey Grammar School, Matlock, and then went on to study medicine at Westminster Hospital Medical School. He qualified with the conjoint examination and the MB BS in 1972.

He was a house physician at Westminster Hospital and then a house surgeon at St Stephen’s Hospital. In 1973 he became a senior house officer at Westminster Hospital, and was then appointed as a registrar in medicine at Central Middlesex and Willesden hospitals. From 1977 to 1979 he was a senior registrar in geriatric medicine in Manchester.

In August 1979 he was appointed as a consultant physician in medicine for the elderly at Leicester.

Outside medicine he was interested in rugby and cricket.

In 1974 he married Susan Lesley Vallance. They had three sons – Matthew, Stephen and Paul.
