Marcus Alexander Sleightholm

Marcus Alexander Sleightholm was a consultant physician at Seacroft Hospital, Leeds. He was born in Blackburn, the son of Peter and Margaret Elizabeth Sleightholm, and subsequently lived in Cambridge and Bradshaw near Bolton. He attended Cannon Slade Grammar School, Bolton, and then studied medicine at Liverpool University, qualifying MB ChB in 1979.

After medical school he worked at Hammersmith Hospital in London and then at Addenbrooke’s in Cambridge, before moving to Leeds as a consultant physician at Seacroft Hospital.

In 1988 he was awarded an MD for his thesis entitled ‘The quantitative evaluation of early diabetic retinopathy’.

He had many interests outside medicine, including bridge, amateur radio, photography and sailing. He was also a keen jazz guitarist.

He was unmarried. He died from a malignant glioblastoma, and was survived by his father, two sisters and his many friends.
