Francis James (‘Jim’) Zacharias was a consultant physician at Clatterbridge Hospital, Wirral. He was born in Waterloo, Liverpool, the son of Francis Herbert Zacharias, a cotton broker, and Gladys Mary Zacharias née Eastwood. He was educated at Felsted School and then went on to study at Liverpool University.
He was a house physician at Liverpool Royal Infirmary and then joined the Royal Air Force, serving in West Africa and at Halton airbase in the UK. He gained the rank of squadron leader.
In 1950 he was appointed as a consultant physician in Wirral. He was physician in charge of the hypertension unit at Clatterbridge Hospital.
Away from medicine, he loved sailing and was a keen photographer and model railway enthusiast.
In 1943 he married Frances (‘Fran’) Marion Nelson, the daughter of an engineer. They had three sons and two daughters.
