John Peter Russel Young

John Young was a consultant psychiatrist at Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Trust in London. He was born in Cleethorpes and studied medicine at Emmanuel College, Cambridge, and St Thomas’s Hospital.

He trained in psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital, and was appointed to St Thomas’ as a consultant in psychological medicine in 1972. During his career he gained several awards, including the Gaskell gold medal and prize of the Royal Medico Psychological Association in 1970, and the bronze medal of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1971. He became a fellow of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 1986 and of the Royal College of Physicians in 1987.

Outside medicine he enjoyed angling.

John Young died after a fall. He was survived by his wife, two daughters and a son.
