Geoffrey Laurence Scott

Geoffrey Laurence Scott was a consultant haematologist in Bristol and Weston-super-Mare. He studied medicine at Cambridge and at St Bartholomew’s Medical School, qualifying first in his year in 1962. He held house posts at Bart’s under Sir Ronald Bodley Scott [Munk’s Roll, Vol.VII, p.521] and later moved to St Thomas’ Hospital, where he was a lecturer and then a consultant senior lecturer. He gained his MD in 1972.

In 1973 he moved to Bristol, where he was a consultant clinical haematologist at Bristol Royal Infirmary and at Weston-super-Mare. During the 1990s, he helped develop a new regional haematology service, the Avon Haematology Unit. He retired in 2001.

Outside medicine, he was interested in gardening, ornithology, horse riding and theatre.

Geoffrey Scott was survived by his wife, Jane, also a former consultant at Bristol, whom he had met at Bart’s, and a son, Matthew.
