Graham White Poole

Graham White Poole was a consultant physician in respiratory disease at Hammersmith Hospital, London. He was born in Dudley, Worcestershire, the son of William Charles Poole, the managing director of a confectionary company. He was educated at Dudley Grammar School and then went on to study medicine at Birmingham University, qualifying in 1944.

He held house physician and resident medical officer posts at Hallam Hospital, West Bromwich, from 1944 to 1949. He was then a resident medical officer and senior registrar at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham. From 1953 to 1958 he was a senior registrar in chest diseases at the United Oxford Hospitals.

In 1965 he was appointed to his consultant post at Hammersmith Hospital. From 1973 he was also a senior lecturer in respiratory diseases at the Postgraduate Medical School of London.

He wrote papers on, among other topics, the treatment of tuberculosis, on bronchial carcinoma and sarcoidosis.

In 1949 he married Jill Prichards, the daughter of Leonard Prichards, the managing director of a printing company. Jill also studied medicine at Birmingham and became a senior clinical medical officer for Brent and Harrow Area Health Authority. They had two sons.
