Gabriel Stephen Nagy

Gabriel Stephen Nagy was a consultant physician in Sydney, Australia. He was born in Budapest, the son of William Nagy, a lawyer, and Mary Gizella Zerkowitz, the daughter of a journalist. He was educated at Racz School and Berzsenyi High School in Budapest.

He studied medicine at Sydney University, Australia, graduating in 1946. He was a resident medical officer at Sydney Hospital from 1946 to 1947. In 1951 he was in London, working as a house physician at the Central Middlesex Hospital.

He returned to Sydney, where he held honorary posts as a general physician and gastroenterologist at North Shore Hospital, St Luke’s and Mona Vale District Hospital. In 1990 he was awarded an honorary doctorate by Sydney University for his contribution to medicine, particularly gastroenterology.

He wrote papers on gastroenterological topics, including gastric biopsy and endoscopy.

In 1949 he married Joanne Atkinson, the daughter of an insurance agent. They had two sons and two daughters.
