Ian Charles Huggon was a consultant in neonatology and fetal cardiology at the Harris Birthright Research Centre for Fetal Medicine at King’s College Hospital, London. He was born in Leeds, the son of John Sidney and Margaret Huggon. His father was a civil servant. Huggon studied medicine at Leeds University and qualified in 1983.
After junior posts, he specialised in paediatric cardiology, becoming a senior registrar at Guy’s Hospital, London. In 1998 he was appointed to his consultant post at the Harris Birthright Research Centre, and developed a fetal echocardiography service there.
He wrote papers for, among other journals, Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, Prenatal Diagnosis, Heart and Cardiology in the Young.
He gained his MRCP in 1986 and was elected a fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in 2003.
In 1987 he married Anne-Marie Huggon, who was also a doctor. They had two children. Huggon died aged just 48 after a long illness.
