John Henry Dadds was a consultant physician at the Portsmouth group of hospitals. He was born in London, the son of Henry Dadds, a soldier, and Ethel née Ireland, the daughter of a farmer. He was educated at Reigate Grammar School, and then studied medicine at King's College Hospital.
He was a house physician at King's under A C D Firth [Munk's Roll, Vol. IV, p. 569] in 1942 and was then a medical registrar at the same hospital until 1945. In 1951 he was appointed as a consultant chest physician at Portsmouth, and in 1963 became a consultant physician there.
He married Audrey née Godson, the daughter of a GP, in 1942, and they had two daughters.
