Vicary Snow was born at Barnstaple. He became a student at University College, London, where he won the Fellowes gold medal, and qualified in 1864. Having held junior appointments at University College Hospital and the Kent County Ophthalmic Hospital, he settled at Bournemouth, where he came to be recognised as an authority on tuberculosis and did much to increase the reputation of the town as a place for its treatment. He served on the honorary staffs of the Royal National Sanatorium for Consumption and the Royal Victoria Hospital, Bournemouth.
