AB Cantab(1573/4) AM(1577) MD FRCP(1608)

John Hammond, MD, was the son of John Hammond, LLD, a master in Chancery, commissary to the dean and chapter of St Paul’s and chancellor of the diocese of London. He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, and proceeded AB 1573-4, shortly after which he was elected a fellow of that house. He graduated AM in 1577, and on the 30th August, 1630, was incorporated at Oxford, being then, according to Wood, a doctor of medicine of Cambridge.

Dr Hammond was physician to James I, and to his eldest son, the prince Henry, the latter of whom he attended in his last illness. He was admitted a Fellow of the College of Physicians, 13th May, 1608. Henry Hammond, the learned theologian, was the son of our physician.
