Balthasar Guersie

Balthasar Guersie, M.D., an Italian, who had been surgeon to Queen Katharine of Aragon, and was naturalised 16th March, 1521-2, took the degree of bachelor of medicine at Cambridge about 1530. He was also surgeon to Henry VIII., and in 1543 was engaged in collecting accusations against archbishop Cranmer. He was, by special grace, admitted M.D. at Cambridge in 1546. He was excepted out of the act of general pardon 7 Edward VI., being therein described as “Balthaser Guarsy, surgenn.” He was admitted a Fellow of the College of Physicians 22nd December, 1556, but died soon afterwards, and was buried 10th January, 1557-8.
