Christopher was born at Christchurch, New Zealand, the son of Maurice James Gresson, a barrister. He was educated at Medbury Preparatory School, Christ’s College, and the University of Otago where he graduated in medicine. From 1943 to 1946 he served Christchurch Hospital as house physician, medical registrar and assistant medical superintendent; he was also lecturer in anatomy at the University of Otago Medical School. He was appointed visiting physician to Christchurch Hospital in 1955; visiting physician to Middlesmore Hospital, Auckland in 1969, and visiting dermatologist to Auckland Hospital in 1974.
In 1952 he married June Marie, daughter of Arthur Clifton, a bank official, and there were three daughters of the marriage. He had no special interests outside medicine and his family.
